National Federation Party's leader Professor Biman Prasad is now calling on Local Government Minister Praveen Bala to clearly state when the Local Government elections will take place.

Prasad says Bala should stop giving excuses that they are reviewing the Local Government Act.

NFP's leader says Bala had confirmed soon after taking up office in 2014 that his first priority will be to call the municipal elections, however three years have gone past and this has not eventuated.

Prasad says Bala should also ensure that the executives of the municipalities around the country respond to the concerns and difficulties faced by the ratepayers.

Meanwhile, Bala has stressed again that Local Government elections will only take place after the completion of reviews on a number of Acts.

When asked if it's possible for municipal elections to be held before the general elections next year, Bala stated that people have to wait for the review to finish.

Bala has also told Prasad to stop making misleading comments where the NFP leader is claiming that those who are running municipal councils are only listening to the Minister responsible and are not accountable to anyone else.
