The National Fire Authority will now be taking over the Emergency Ambulance Services after Cabinet gave approval for the outsourcing.

The Health Minister has asked that the services be taken over by the National Fire Authority after a survey done in 2008 made the recommendation as the Health Ministry Ambulance Service, through the Saint Johns Brigade and other Transport organisations, are facing alot of difficulties in service delivery.

In his request, Doctor Neil Sharma revealed that the management of the service, high cost of maintenance and replacement, along with inefficiency of Saint Johns Ambulance has resulted in a below standard of ambulance service in the country.

Meanwhile, the National Fire Authority is now having a meeting to iron out the finer details before they release any details.

There are currently 15 fire stations around the country.
