National Fire Authority has reiterated it's call for building owners to ensure that their buildings are connected to NFA's fire alarm monitoring system.

This comes after NFA attended to a fire incident at New World Supermarket branch located at nine miles yesterday which could have proved disastrous.

According to NFA they received a call from the branch manager and when the fire fighters arrived at the scene, they saw smoke coming out from the tube light located at the back of the building.

The fire fighters used dry chemical powder to extinguish the fire.

Initial investigation revealed that this was due to an electrical short circuit.

NFA Chief Fire Officer Tupou Saubulinayau said when buildings are connected through NFA=s fire alarm system, the fire brigade is automatically alerted in the event of a fire.

Meanwhile, a family lost their four bedroom house in a fire yesterday at Lawai village in Sigatoka.

NFA said when the fire fighters arrived at the scene, the house was well involved in fire.

Investigation continues.
