The National Fire Authority has raised concern on the increase in residential house fires.

Acting chief fire officer Tupou Saubilinayau said this month alone four family homes were destroyed by fire.

The NFA is adamant of minimizing the impact of fire in the country if people would simply call their local fire brigade or the emergency line 911 early to enable the brigade’s early arrival at the scene.

The sooner NFA is called the sooner the fire crew can get to the scene and help minimize the impact of fire.

People are advised that whenever they leave their homes they should always switch off the electrical appliances and where possible notify their neighbours of their absence.

He said there can be incidents when weather conditions can be really windy, flying ambers from the burning wood can cause fire when in contact with flammable material.
