The National Fire Authority has raised concern at the number of house fires from 1st December last year.

The Acting Chief Fire Officer Jone Koroi said that they have found that in the past two months most of the houses that caught fire were in the urban areas and majority of these houses are in residential areas.

He said that NFA statistics reveal that 50% of the houses that caught fire were insured.

Koroi said that rural dwellers are more careful in preventing unnecessary fires and it seems that urban dwellers are not taking the fire advices given by NFA seriously.

Meanwhile, a family lost their 3 bedroom house in a fire around 1 in the morning at Tomuka Settlement Lautoka.

The house belonging to Mohammed Khan was completely engulfed in fire by the time fire fighters reached the house.

Police and fire are now trying to ascertain the cause of fire.
