The National Fire Authority has banned the sale and drinking of yaqona or kava from all its 17 fire stations and offices.

Chairman John Low said the ban, which came into effect from the 9th of this month, is in line with government’s policy for improving the professionalism of all public servants and workplaces.

Low added that this is to ensure the efficiency of fire officers and instead of drinking kava during their leisure time, the officers are to take part in group sessions to talk about issues or do reading and research.

According to NFA, anyone found drinking grog at work will be dealt with severely.
