With a decision expected to be made soon on whether to declare a state of drought in many parts of the country, the National Fire Authority has revealed that a total of two hundred and twenty-two grass, bush and rubbish fire incidents were attended last month around the country.

NFA Acting Chief Executive Officer, Jone Koroi said these fires are a growing concern as it has threatened neighboring residential zones, particularly in the Western division.

Meanwhile, NFA also reveals that the fire that destroyed the Trade Furniture and Joinery Company Limited building along the Nadi Back road on Sunday morning was due to the uncontrolled burning of rubbish.

People have been urged to be very careful when burning rubbish as fires spread faster under the current dry and windy weather conditions.
