The National Fire Authority (NFA) is reaching out to more rural areas and outer islands in an effort to teach more people and children about fire safety techniques.
Chief Fire Officer, Mark Ried said apart from about 90 schools in the Central and Eastern Division, they have also covered almost all of population in Ovalau.
He said they are getting good feedback from the families and will be meeting with the villagers in islands this year.
Ried said they have a special inflatable smoke-house with rooms and after filling it with harmless synthetic smoke, children are taught 7 basic fire safety rules and sent in the house where they get the chance to apply the rules and learn what to do when the building they’re in catches fire.
