Non communicable diseases such as diabetes are the cause of eye disease and blindness in the Pacific.
These are the comments made by Permanent Secretary for Health Dr Sala Saketa at the Pacific Regional Eye Health conference in Suva this morning.
Dr Saketa said the training is to look at best practices in eye care and developing guidelines that can be used in the Pacific island countries.
About 85 doctors and nurses from the 12 Pacific island countries are attending the three day conference which will ended on Friday.
