NCBBF Disappointmented With Church/SDL
The group which includes, Ratu Tevita Uluilakeba Mara, Jokapeci Koroi, Adi Finau Tabakaucoro, Reverend Akuila Yabaki, Ratu Filimoni Ralogaivau and Ratu Josateki Nawalowalo amongst others, said they were invited by the President to participate in the process and accepted to move the country forward to a truly democratic election.
In the statement, the group have said they are disappointed that the SDL party which most of them have supported and the Methodist Church of which most of them are members, did not accept the President's invitation to be part of the NCBBF adding that the Methodist Church leaders were afraid that if the NCBBF were given the opportunity to explain the Charter, the Church's opposition would evaporate once members saw the Charter was not a threat to the Indigenous Fijians.
The group believes that the SDL Party and the Methodist Church have betrayed the interest of their members and denied their fundamental rights to decide on the Charter for themselves.
The group also said with regards to the SDL party and Methodist Church that blind opposition without offering an alternative path forward is a serious failure of leadership that will inevitably result in desertion of the leadership.
