Fiji Labour Party Leader Mahendra Chaudhry said the decision by the National Council for Building a Better Fiji to extend the timeframe for consultations on the draft Peoples Charter to mid December is unnecessary.

Chaudhry said with the entire government machinery now working on the Charter an extension to mid October should have been sufficient and adds that extending the period to mid December will take us into the Christmas festive season which means that political discussions on the charter will not begin until sometime in mid January.

Chaudhry stresses that the interim government must convene a political dialogue forum to resolve contentious issues in the draft Peoples Charter and the decision by the NCBBF is unnecessarily protracting the whole exercise.

Meanwhile, FLP President Jokapeci Koroi who attended the NCBBF meeting in Nasova this morning refused to comment on the decision to extend consultations when approached by Fijivillage news.
