The National Alliance Party has come out in support of the realignment of the military's allocation for the 2009 National Budget.

In a statement, National Secretary Meli Waqa said their support is based on the fact that since 1978 when the 1st Peacekeeping mission commenced, the Military has been a major contributor to the national economy through foreign exchange earnings and the increments are 30 years overdue.

Waqa said what people fail to appreciate is that the country over the 30 year period benefitted immensely from these peacekeeping missions and these earnings have also been used to repay our debts to the various lending institutions like the IMF, World Bank and the ADB.

He said the National Alliance is pleading with commentators to be more broadminded and not make snap analysis of the issue but rather look at it from a holistic and pragmatic perspective.
