Former Prime Minister and SDL leader Laisenia Qarase has told Fijian supporters in Brisbane that his life remains under threat from the military led government.

ABC News reported that Laisenia Qarase told supporters at a Brisbane Primary School Hall on Saturday night that he was warned by anonymous callers that he would be killed or thrown into jail.

Qarase is reported to have said that the military led interim government was ruling through fear adding there is an ever present threat of the use of force against those who are opposed to what is happening.

ABC News reported Qarase had also said that other Pacific Island members of the Forum will be asked to impose a similar travel ban like Australia and New Zealand, on personnel within the regime in Fiji.

Fijivillage had also got confirmation that Qarase had spoken at the fundraising dinner in Brisbane on Saturday night to raise funds for their legal fees for the upcoming appeal of the Qarase/Bainimarama High Court ruling.

Qarase said these events are part of a fundraising trip adding the SDL has mounted very expensive legal cases in Fiji and the party needs financial support.

The former Prime Minister will be going to Sydney for the next leg of his fundraising tour.

Qarase had been granted a variation to his bail conditions by the courts after submitting an application to be able to travel to Australia to visit his children and grandchildren.
