Mutiny officers further remanded in custody
The two former directors of the Police Intelligence Branch Berenando Daveta and Rusiate Tuidravu are charged with allegedly conspiring to commit a felony, namely mutiny.
In court today, Daveta's counsel Mehboob Raza made an oral application for bail and was then instructed by Judge Justice Priyantha Fernando to make a formal bail application for the court to consider.
Tuidravu's lawyer Rajendra Chaudhry informed the judge that he has made a formal application for bail on a number of grounds and highlighted that they seek two orders from the courts.
Chaudhry said one is that his client be granted bail and that the matter be set for hearing within 14 days thereafter.
DPP lawyer Ana Tuikitei revealed that the case is still under investigation as was stated in the Magistrates Court and that there is a likelihood that others may be charged in relation to the case as police are compiling further evidence.
Justice Fernando adjourned the matter till June 9th for hearing on the bail application and also giving the prosecution time to respond to the submissions being made.
The two senior officers are alleged to have conspired between October 15th and January this year to remove Commodore Teleni from office.
The two earlier pleaded not guilty to the charge in the Magistrates Court.
