Muslims around the country today celebrate Prophet Mohammed's birthday.

Maulana Abdul Rashid from Nakasi Mazjid Noor told Fijivillage that Prophet Mohammed was a messenger of God and highlighted some of his teachings.

Rashid said in a multi-cultural and multi racial country like Fiji, it is important that all Muslims follow the teachings of Islam as the holy book, the Koran, calls on all Muslims to treat all races the same, to be polite to them, to never take away anyone's rights and to never give any pain or create problems for others.

He added we have to interact with people of other religious beliefs and we need each other's help everyday.

Muslims early this morning attended prayer sessions in Mosques around the country.
