Muslims around the country will today join the rest of the world in celebrating one of the important festivals of the Islamic Calendar, Eid Ul Fitr.
Today marks the end of the Islamic month of fasting called Ramadan.
The day begins with prayer after which Eid cards, gifts, sweets, other delicacies and new clothing are bought to distribute to family and friends.
At the mosque breakfast is provided and people spend a little time with each other and have the traditional drink of Sawine (pronounced as sa-wa-i not swine).
Mohammed Shahim of the Koronivia Mosque said that during this time they ask for forgiveness and help the poor where they can.
Meanwhile, today is also the International Day of Peace as declared by the UN General Assembly.
The Citizens Constitutional Forum encourages all people to support national dialogue on key issues as the way forward for Fiji. It calls on people to create opportunities to engage with others and create inclusive spaces for dialogue and peace building.
The CCF also said people must take this opportunity to make peace in relationships as well as impact the larger conflicts around them adding we need to practice tolerance and live together in peace with one another as good neighbours.
