Police have not ruled out the possibility that more than four people could have been involved in the alleged murder of 49-year-old Sheik Mohammed Hassan on Sunday night in Savusavu.

Currently there are four people in Police custody who face charges of murder and robbery with violence.

These people are currently being questioned by CID officers and charges are expected to be laid by tomorrow.

Police Spokesperson Atunaisa Sokomuri said they believe there are some other people connected to the incident and the hunt for them continues.

Hassan was guarding the sawmill compound when three masked men armed with cane knives and pinchbars attacked him. They allegedly tied his hands and leg and assaulted him which caused his death.

The robbers then walked away with $12,000 cash and other items.

Meanwhile, a van driver has been admitted in Lautoka hospital after he was assaulted and robbed by some unknown men last night in Waiyavi.

According to Police, the four people hired the van driver to drop them to Waiyavi and upon reaching their destination, the four first punched and kicked him, tied him with cellotape and then threw him inside his van.

The four men than robbed him off $60 and a moblie phone.

Some people passing by helped the driver to untie him and took him to hospital.
