32-year-old Setefano Nausu has been denied bail by High Court Judge Justice Nazhat Shameem.
Nausu is charged with murder, robbery and robbery with violence as it is alleged that he, after robbing a couple in Colo-i-Suva caused the death of a woman after he threw a stone at her.
DPP Lawyer Aca Rayawa had yesterday objected to bail and highlighted that the accused had previous convictions and was on bail in a pending case when the alleged murder took place. He also said he could interfere with the witnesses.
However, Nausu's lawyer Filimoni Vosarogo then, told Judge Shameem that bail can only be denied if there is evidence that a person will not appear in court. He stressed that there is no such evidence against his client and he must be granted bail as it is now known when the trial will begin.
Justice Shameem refused bail and adjourned the case to Friday.
