Murder Case referred To High Court
Magistrate Aminiasi Katonivualiku has referred the case to the High Court.
Singh's lawyer Haroon Ali Shah has questioned the investigating officer, Superintendent Keshri Lal as to why the accused was remanded in custody for more than 48 hours because under the provisions of the bail act, the accused should have been produced to court within the 48 hour time frame, however this was not done and the time Singh was remanded in custody was 61 hours.
Superintendent Keshri Lal was then called into the witness box and he told the court that he had called the Director of Prosecutions Office and told them that the investigations were yet to be completed because the forensic experts and the pathologist were still doing their investigations at the crime scene.
Lal was asked by the Defense Counsel whether or not the post mortem had been completed and he replied that it had not yet been completed and the cause of death was still not known.
Shah then went on to say that all investigations were still premature.
The state was represented by Aca Rayawa, who asked Keshri Lal what they had seen during their investigations and Lal replied that they had seen multiple injuries on the victim and the crime scene was filled with blood.
Singh's lawyer Shah, is asking the Court to consider bail for the accused because he has two children, one a 3 month old baby and the other 4 years old to look after as he is the sole provider, he has a good job with AusAid, no previous convictions and also his 4yr-old son is asking " when is daddy coming home".
The case continues at the Magistrate's Court.
