The residents of Muanivatu Settlement have written to the Suva City Council asking for a further extension of 18 months on the eviction deadline which expires at the end of this month.

ECREA's Semiti Qalowasa has confirmed that a meeting was held with the Deputy Lord Mayor Josefa Gavidi, where discussions revolved around requesting for a further 18 months extension as well as a request to finalise re-location plans for Raiwai instead of Sasawira.

Qalowasa said a similar request had been written to the Interim Prime Minister's Office by Father Kevin Barr earlier this year, where it was highlighted that many of the residents are finding it hard to relocate to other areas as they don't have the resources to do so.

The Suva City Council has given the residents till the end of this month to vacate the land at Vatuwaqa.
