“Our mothers need to be cherished not only on Mothers Day but everyday of their lives.”

Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation, Rosy Akbar made this comment this morning while celebrating Mothers Day with the women from the Babasiga Ashram in Labasa.

She had breakfast with the women which was organised at the Grand Eastern Hotel.

Akbar says mothers are the most significant person in our lives. She says they are the source of unconditional love that nurtures us throughout our life and we need to respect and care for them.

The Minister adds that it is saddening to see that there are some mothers who have been left at age care homes, when in fact most of them have their families.

She says the best place for seniors is with their own families.

Akbar says most of the seniors at the age care homes cry to see their children and she is requesting the families out there to please look after their parents.

Currently, there are 72 women living at the three age care homes in Fiji.

Meanwhile, preparations for Mothers Day celebration started last night at various places around the country and some even organised a special dinner for their mother.

We also spoke to some people and asked them how they will be celebrating Mothers Day today.
