Don't take away the life of an innocent child.
High Judge Justice Salesi Temo today sentenced 28 year old Milika Videi to three years imprisonment after she was found guilty of strangling her new born baby boy to death on the 13th of March last year.
Justice Temo while delivering his ruling told Videi that the aggravating factors was that she planned to kill the baby boy while she was carrying him for nine months, because of the fact that she had moved into her present defacto relationship, and the baby boy was conceived from an earlier relationship.
Justice Temo told Videi that in that state of mind she obviously had no regard for human life.
Justice Temo told Videi that the violence she inflicted on the baby was in the extreme, and the baby looked to her for safety and support, as she was the baby's mother and was expected to ensure his safety and welfare.
Justice Temo went on to say that the baby was helpless a few minutes after birth when she decided to end his life.
Justice Temo in his ruling also told Videi that after ending her baby boy's life, she misled everyone including her mother that she had a miscarriage.
He went on to say that she then wrapped the baby boy's body with her skirt, put him in a plastic bag and threw him down her parent's pit toilet.
Justice Temo told Videi that even in death she showed total disregard to the memories and human dignity of this short innocent life.
Justice Temo sentenced Videi to 3 years imprisonment.
