Former interim Finance Minister and Labour Party Leader has claimed that most businesses in Fiji have not been affected by World Financial crises.
Mahendra Chaudhry said the interim government and most employers are giving this as a reason to defer the new wage rate which had to come in place from the 1st of February.
According to Chaudhry employers have always objected to wage increases and this should be stopped now.
However, the Fiji Employers Federation stresses local businesses are feeling the direct impacts of the global financial crisis, which has sent many developed economies into recession.
While welcoming the decision to defer the implementation of the new wages order, Fiji Employers Federation President Dixon Seeto said the costs of business continue to increase in the global market.
Seeto added it is important that all stakeholders work together to try and keep as many people as possible employed in these difficult times.
