The Ministry of Health has revealed that 4 hospitals in the Central Eastern division are facing serious space shortages in the mortuaries.

The four facilities include the main CWM hospital in Suva, Korovou, Navua and Wainibokasi Health Centres. Even the Suva private Hospital has reported it has a full mortuary.

According to the General Manager Hospital Services CWM hospital, Dr Eloni Tora is requesting the public to remove their deceased from the centres for burial as soon as applicable.

Tora said families should plan for early burials as the long delay in removing bodies will deny other members of the public access to mortuary services.

Meanwhile, the normal time allowed for keeping bodies in public mortuaries is limited to three days per family.
