What started off with only one house being infested with termites has now affected more than nine hundred homes and schools in Lautoka and the Kadivuka Bio Security Task Force is not taking reports of infestation in the North lightly.
Task Force spokesperson, Rosa Dalituicama said that their initial survey in Labasa has shown that there are nine houses infested however since their last field work, this figure is expected to increase.
At the moment, the Taskforce is in the field compiling a report to determine how wide the infestation is and how much money will be needed to address the infestation.
In Lautoka, after the promulgation of the Termite Bio Security Decree there were three Bio Security Zones set up from Tomuka to Tavakubu, another from Natabua to Wairabetia with the third zone being from Naikabula to Drasa Damn Road and Dalituicama said their survey today will determine whether any such zones will be set up in Labasa.
