Police have today confirmed that they are investigating the allegations of abuse of funds by the former Principal of Marist Brothers High School.
Spokesperson, Fred Elbourne said although he cannot confirm whether the person has been questioned already, he said they are definitely looking into the matter.
Meanwhile, there are revelations by the Fiji Marist Brothers Education Trust Board that the former Principal of Marist Brothers High School allegedly misused more than 100 thousand dollars over a period of four years.
As questions were raised in the MOBilise Conference on what steps are being taken to retrieve the funds and whether further action will be taken against the former Principal, the Trust Board Chairman, Frederick Miller revealed that the amount misused could be higher if they go back more than the four year period.
Miller told the Marist Old Boys that the misuse of the funds was done from a Sports Centre account and the Trust Board was unaware of the transactions.
Miller also revealed that many cheques were signed even after a signatory of the account passed away.
He said the information is now being collated and will be given to their lawyers within the next few weeks before further action is taken against the former MBHS Principal.
Many Marist old boys raised questions yesterday about the alleged abuse including Prime Minister, Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama, who wanted to esnure that proper action is taken and the abused funds are recovered.
Police spokesperson, Fred Elbourne has confirmed to Fijivillage News that the matter has been reported to the Police, and investigations are underway.
Fijivillage News had earlier highlighted the dismissal of the former Principal however the authorities concerned had decided not to make comments on why he was removed.
