More tenders have been called for the maintenance and construction of roads nationwide.

The tenders which are being handled by the Central Co-ordinating Agency for Roads or the CCAR will deal with not only municipal roads in the 14 municipalities but other roads as well.

Agency spokesperson, Sainiana Waqanaibete said these projects have been made available through defaulting rate payers clearing outstanding areas to the Councils.

She adds that the CCAR gets its funding through the Council rates as well as through Government funding.

According to Waqainabete, their pilot project in Wailada which has seen the upgrading of seven roads has set the trend with many people now realising that if they pay their rates on time they will be able to benefit.
