The Fiji Sugar Cooperation (FSC) hopes that they will not have to import sugar from next year to meet local demands as they will have to import sugar again this year.

FSC Chief Executive Officer Deo Saran said they have a contract to honour in terms of sugar imports.

Meanwhile, Saran earlier revealed that the devaluation of the Fiji dollar by 20 percent is expected to increase sugar and molasses exports by $52 million this year and will benefit cane farmers as there will be an increase in the cane price for 2009.
