The new age grading system of the Coca-Cola Games will give an age advantage to athletes in all the grades from this year which is expected to result in the breaking of a number of records set in the old age system.

Historically, it has been proven that majority of the athletes run faster times, have better jumps or throws as they move up the age groups.

Under the new system the Sub Junior grade will be for athletes upto 14 years and under compared to 13 years under the old system, the Junior grade is now 16 years and under compared to 15 years in the past, the intermediate grade is now 18 years and under compared to 17 years under the old system while the Senior grade is now for athletes 20 years and under compared to 19 years in the past.

When questioned on this matter, 2014 Coca-Cola Games Chief Organizer, Vuli Waqa said this is a minor issue although the athletes will have an age advantage in each grade.

Waqa said the organizers are just looking at improving the standard of competition and will not begin a new record system under the new age group system.
