More discounts are expected for the recipients of the $30 food voucher program as the two authorised vendors have agreed to team up and approach their suppliers to negotiate for discounts on basic food items.

Permanent Secretary at the Social Welfare Ministry Govind Sami said the intention is to stretch the $30 and ensure that maximum amount of food is put in a basket.

Sami said the food list has been reviewed and the focus is also to provide more local products.
