Steps are being taken by the government and stakeholders in the poultry industry to try and ensure that those in the low income bracket in Fiji are able to afford quality chicken products at cheap prices.
While opening the first ever Food Symposium at the Novotel Hotel in Lami this morning, Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama revealed that more competitive prices will be implemented to achieve this goal.
Addressing the over 300 stakeholders at the symposium, Commodore Bainimarama also revealed a major government initiative to boost the agriculture sector through the Fiji development bank which is expected to be unveiled by this afternoon.
While doing so, he also urged the tourism industry to get behind the local producers and not let past experiences be an obstacle in utilizing locally grown fruits and vegetables.
