The Fiji Rugby Union is expected to receive more applications for the post of Flying Fijians coach in the coming days.

The closing date for the applications has also been extended to next Tuesday.

So far, Former Flying Fijians captain Greg Smith has applied for the top position.

There are also indications that some development officers within the FRU are also expected to apply for the post.

Looking at Fifteens rugby this year:

Fiji tasted its first ever defeat to Japan at home, the biggest losing margin to Tonga since the first game in 1924, and the drop in rankings from 10th to 16th are some of the highlights that marked the Fiji Fifteens rugby team for this year.

The year started with the Pacific Rugby Cup where the Fiji Warriors side managed to defend the title, relying on Tonga to beat Samoa for the results to go in their favor.

Former coach Samu Domoni Jnr put more than 60 players to trial for the Pacific Nations Cup which was used as a build up to the Rugby World Cup in October.

Unfortunately the writing was on the wall from the PNC with two months to the World Cup as we finished last with our first loss to Japan on our home turf.

The side received $3 million from the government for the RWC preparations and was already talking about the fact that they were better than the 2007 team that reached the quarterfinal.

Fiji was the first side to arrive in New Zealand promising they would be the last to leave, but the results were the other way round with only a win against Namibia and a heavy loss to South Africa and Samoa, and for the first time in a Rugby World Cup, we did not score points in the last game to Wales.
