More Students Involved In Drug Abuse
The Education Officer at the National Substance Abuse Advisory Council, Talica Malani told the Principals that more students are getting into drug abuse, as many do not get the needed attention from their parents while at other times some parents are the ones forcing the children to sell drugs.
Malani said glue sniffing is becoming very popular with primary school students and more boys are involved in it.
Malani said there are currently no laws on the detention of glue sniffers which they are working on and hope that the laws will be out by the end of this year.
Meanwhile, the President of the Fiji Principals Association Abhay Prasad believes that that all teachers and principals should follow the guidelines set by the Education Ministry when it comes to corporal punishment.
Prasad said that the rules have been clearly laid down and this needs to be followed and that is that corporal punishment is not allowed in schools.
The Principal's Conference continues tomorrow.
