People had to fork out more money from their pockets for many basic items last month.

The Bureau of Statistics report shows that although the price for bakery products, cereal, fresh meat, fresh and preserved fruits, dairy products, vegetables and yaqona went down by 0.9%, higher prices were recorded for cigarette by 2.4%.

Private House rents and house paint increased by 0.1% while higher prices were recorded for electricity charges by 5.1%.

Household goods such as furniture, crockery, non electrical appliances and jewelry increased including clothing for all, medial goods and other household items.

However prices for fuel went down by 2.7%.

The inflation rate for last month was 7.7 compared to 4.8 in 2007.
