The Minister for Education said the New Curriculum Framework has been temporarily withdrawn as more preparation and consultations needs to be held before it can be implemented.

Filipe Bole said the NCF follows the constructivist approach, and at this point in time there is a need for further discussions, debates and trials of this approach to teaching and learning in Fiji.

Bole said teachers will need further professional development sessions to familiarize them with the framework. He adds the approach rearranges the syllabuses into learning strands and requires teachers to unpack learning concepts and outcomes amongst other criteria.

The NCF of the Ministry of Education is the planned new curriculum for the entire school system from kindergarten through primary and secondary up to Form 7.
