The month of January this year was the driest in 12 years.
According to Nadi Weather Office Director, Rajendra Prasad the worst drought was in 1998 due to the El-Niño effect which was a year long drought.
In 1998 the month of January was quite dry and following that there were many floods which came in the month of January.
Maximum temperatures recorded in Ba last month was 35.9 degrees however the all time record for highest temperature is 38 degrees.
However Prasad said this dry season is not the worst we have seen as there are sprinkles of rain in some parts of the country.
