A 42-year-old man from Yacata Island, Cakaudrove was sentenced to 2 years 6 months at the Taveuni Magistrate Court, after pleading guilty to indecently assaulting an 11yr-old girl on the 22nd of March this year.

The court heard that the man asked the girl's parents if she could go with him to get some kumala from the plantation, her parents agreed.

Upon reaching the plantations, the man molested the girl after which she went and told her parents.

When sentencing him early this week, Magistrate Anare Tuilevuka said he had broken the trust the girl and her parents had in him and so he would be given a custodial sentence.

Meanwhile, a 45yr-old man from Taveuni was also sentenced to 3 years 4 months after pleaded guilty to molesting an 18yr-old student.

The court heard that the girl was sleeping when the man forcefully entered the house and molested her.

In mitigation, he said that he went to asked for homebrew from the victim's father.

Magistrate Tuilevuka said his actions have given him custodial sentence.
