A 36-year-old man who allegedly hacked a Year 10 student to death in Naria, Rakiraki, on Wednesday afternoon has been remanded in custody by the Tavua Magistrates Court.
Molani Moceyawa is charged with one count of Murder and one count of Act with Intent to Cause Grievous Bodily Harm and appeared in a special court sitting today.
The Police Prosecutor asked the court not to release Moceyawa on bail as the matter is very serious, it has high public interest and they have a strong case against the accused.
The case has been transferred to the high court and Moceyawa will reappear in court on 28th of this month.
The female student passed away on Wednesday while her father who was also stabbed by the same man remains hospitalized.
The incident occurred when the student got off the school bus.
