143 years ago saw the last Cannibalism act in Fiji with the death of the English Methodist missionary, the late Reverend Thomas Baker in Nabutautau, Navosa.
During that time many warriors from the village of Mokani were tasked to enquire about the Reverend's death.
Many Mokani warriors were killed, however only one returned bringing God’s blessings to Mokani from that day till now.
This is what the story students of Ratu Ravuama School in Mokani Tailevu will be telling at this month’s FM 96 Tadra Kahani with TFL and Fijivillage.
Liaison Teacher, Elenoa Seru said the blessing is evident because even though the villagers of Mokani survive on a small piece of land, they have managed to overcome their basic needs of education and village obligations through their main source of income the sale of cassava puddings or bila.
Tadra Kahani will be held on the 18th and 19th of this month with 10 schools participating in the Junior Division while 14 schools will be taking part in the senior division.
The Junior Division finals will be held on 18th while the senior divisions will be on the 19th.
Tickets are on sale at the home of Fijivillage at 231 Waimanu Road in Suva, and the Sugar Cane Growers Council Building in Lautoka.
