Villagers in Moala in the Southern Lau Group only have enough food to last them for two weeks, as Cyclone Mick damaged most of their plantations.

Naroi village Post Master Temo Vaka said that the villagers were well prepared after they received information on Sunday that a cyclone warning was in place for the whole of the Fiji Group.

Vaka added the only damage done was to their plantations and assessing from what is left, they have enough food for only two weeks, after that the villagers will rely heavily on shipping services to transport flour, sugar and rice from Suva for consumption.

Vaka added that the villagers also relied heavily on breadfruit, most of which was uprooted on Monday night during the Cyclone and the island is hoping assistance will reach them in the next few days.
