Ministry/Supermarkets to meet on voucher programme
Acting Permanent Secretary Govind Sami said they want to ensure that the recipient of the $30 Food Voucher who are under the ministry’s Family Assistance Scheme do not face any problems when getting their basic food items from the two identified supermarkets.
Sami also said they will be meeting with New World Supermarket and Morris Hedstrom to look into the problems faced to ensure the recipients do not face any problems.
The supermarkets which have been selected have been given a 6 months contract which will be reviewed at the end of June.
Meanwhile, approximately 16,000 food vouchers have been distributed and more are expected to be distributed in coming weeks as part of the Government’s programme.
Sami said they are aiming to assist a further four thousand people.
Sami also said so far they have distributed food vouchers to those who fall in the old age, sickly and disable category.
He added that they would also be looking at assisting those who are in the category of Family Care and Protection Allowances, some single mothers and also families where the breadwinner has died.
