The Works, Energy, Transport and Public Utilities Ministry is working on a number of measures to reduce its operational costs by 50%.

Spokesperson Sainiana Waqainabete said some measures include usage of vehicles is monitored and all vehicles are to be parked after hours to avoid unnecessary usage.

All unnecessary travels are also cancelled.

Small expenses like purchasing of photo copy papers have been minimized as these small expenses contribute to larger expenses in the end.

They are also focusing on power usage.

All lights and electrical appliances are switched off after hours and when not in use.

Waqainabete said all training has been put on hold in the ministry unless it is funded by sponsors.

Various supervisors are monitoring the operational costs however it is not confirmed how much money will be saved.

All ministries have been directed to reduce their operational costs by 50%.
