The Health Ministry has taken a stance to put a stop to anymore public fundraising to send a sick person overseas or for the purchase of medication unless recommended by them.
Health Ministry spokesperson Iliesa Tora said they have received reports that some people who had asked for special permits for public appeal were not genuine.
Health Minister Dr Neil Sharma has written to all permanent secretaries of ministries who grant such permits, commissioners and district officers informing them of the stance the ministry has taken.
Tora added that the authorities involved in issuing the permit have been asked to cancel all permits that were issued previously and to stop the issuance of new ones unless the Health Ministry approves it.
Meanwhile, Dr Neil Sharma has recommended that the permit granted for Rahul Ashitosh Nand to be cancelled as the treatment is available at Colonial War Memorial Hospital.
The Ministry has established that Nand can be treated locally and the dental team is confident undertaking the procedure.
