The Ministry of Transport is now carrying out a review of the FIMSA maritime laws following the recent grounding of the vessel Bawaqa.
Ministry spokeswoman Sainiana Waqainabete said that they have had a meeting and will now carry out the review to ensure the safety of passengers.
Waqainabete said that this will start with an internal assessment of the running of FIMSA.
According to Waqainabete, this review is expected to take awhile where they will also relook and maybe merging FIMSA with the Fiji Navy.
Meanwhile, investigations by both the owners of the Bawaqa, Ba Provincial holdings and the Ministry are still looking into the incident that saw the vessel run aground on Viwa reefs earlier this month.
