We are doing our best to address transportation problems faced by those living in outer islands.

Transport Ministry spokesperson Sainiana Waqainabete said those living in Lau and Rotuma often encounter shortage in the supply of basic items, due to the lack of shipping services, and they are looking into how the Ministry can provide a solution to this.

Waqainabete added this is the reason why they have decided to review the franchise system, because most of these routes are unprofitable and most shipping companies have opted to stay away from servicing them.

Waqainabete said if the need arises then they will also provide transportation for officials from the Health and Education Ministry, who are posted to these outer islands as Term Two officially starts today.
