Fiji has attained a literacy rate of 92.9% and the Education Ministry said that more work has to be done to ensure that Fiji reaches the 100% literacy rate.

Education Minister Filipe Bole said in order to achieve this, the ministry has embarked on some programs and projects such as the Fiji Islands Literacy and Numeracy Assessment or FILNA, the enforcement of 12 years of compulsory education and the assistance given to schools in the form of grants.

The International Literacy Day is celebrated around the globe each year on September 8th and the theme this year is the Power of Literacy.
