The Transport Ministry has revealed that they have not received any direct assistance from the Road User Levy for road upgrade.
Government had introduced this levy earlier this year in order to collect more money for road maintenance however Transport Minister Sainiana Waqainabete said money from the levy is currently used for operational costs.
Meanwhile, LTA Manager Central Eastern Ratu Eroni Volavola earlier said although government expected to generate some $8 million a year for road maintenance, it’s not enough since the road budget every year always reached more than $100 million.
