A team from the Ministry of Fisheries is in Macuata currently investigating a case where large numbers of turtles were allegedly killed during the Methodist Church Conference last month.

It has been confirmed that only four turtles were approved to be killed for traditional purposes however total of eighty four turtles were allegedly killed.

Senior Officials from the ministry say under the Endangered Species Act one found guilty of this offence can be fined over $20,000 or five years imprisonment.

Officials could not confirm when the investigations will conclude.

The Tui Macuata could not be reached for comments.
