Ministry monitors Swine Flu outbreak
With two possible cases of swine flu reported in New Zealand, the Ministry said there is a high possibility of it reaching Fiji through travelers.
The flu which started from pigs has killed 103 people in Mexico and has infected more than a thousand others.
Cases have also been confirmed in Canada and the United States.
It is not clear at this stage if the flu has reached Fiji as according to WHO, it will take weeks to detect the swine flu virus.
Health Ministry Permanent Secretary Dr Sala Saketa said they have started monitoring travelers coming into the country.
The swine flu virus can be spread through direct contact, shaking hands, kissing and even sneezing in front of someone.
The Health Ministry has also confirmed the flu will not spread from eating pigs.
The symptoms of swine flu in people include fever, cough, sore throat, body aches, headache, chills and fatigue.
To prevent the flu from spreading, wash your hands, get plenty sleep, manage your stress, eat nutritious food and avoid contact with sick people.
