In an effort to curb the number of students involved in unruly behaviour and brawls the Education Ministry said it will be forced to ban schools involved in such activities from competitive sports.
Minister Filipe Bole said street brawls amongst rival school students because of game results or offending playing tactics in the field is becoming uglier these days, adding it seems that secondary school sports administrators and teachers seem powerless to stop these fights.
Bole said student safety is the Ministry's responsibility and the only possible thing for them to do is to ban students from playing rugby or any other competitive sports like athletics altogether.
He added students need to learn that whatever happens in the sports field stays in the field, and they must learn that sports are to be enjoyed as a means of bonding with their team mates and make friends with others.
Meanwhile officers from the Fiji Police Force have visited a number of Prominent Secondary schools in Suva following brawls between the students of these schools in the Suva bus stand on two consecutive Fridays.
